Orlu

Commune mainly recognized for its Orlu Valley, it is located 5 km from Ax-les-Thermes and offers an exceptional natural mountain environment, preserved and accessible.

Orlu culminates between 750 m and 2750 m in altitude with in its heart, the famous National Wildlife Reserve of Orlu, known for the beauty of its landscapes, its easily observable mountain fauna (marmots, chamois, birds of prey... ) and its traditional human activities. This protected natural territory is of particular interest for hiking and the scientific studies on the fauna and flora that are carried out there. This very rich heritage makes the Vallée d'Orlu the natural center of the Ariège Pyrenees.

The Vallée d'Orlu has nearly 10 nature and outdoor leisure tourist structures, numerous and diversified accommodations, and two authentic villages nestled in the heart of a wild setting, for all nature and outdoor sports enthusiasts. , and for all those looking for mountain sensations.

The Maison des Loups, a real local treasure, the tree climbing course, the hydroelectric power station and the Mountain Observatory are among the essential elements of the Orlu Valley.


From the Forges d'Orlu car park, it is possible to take the hiking trail "le chemin des cascades", leading you to the Fanguil car park, which then offers other hiking departures through the National Reserve, especially the one taking you to the Prairie d'en Gaudu, then to the En-Beys refuge.
