This is an alternative path to reach Savignac through the heights of the right bank of the Ariège river with a circuit in the forest and a beautiful point of view on the valley.
Good to know: some passages are steep and narrow, in wet weather the rock can be slippery. Precautions should be taken with children. Departure from the tourist office: Turn left towards the Thermoludic center of Couloubret then left again towards the cemetery. From the car park on the right, a steep path rises quickly to reach the Bosquet housing estate (0H20). At the end of the first paved street (Bel-Air impasse), turn left (ignore the red cross) to head towards the end of the subdivision... Read more

From the car park on the right, a steep path rises quickly to reach the Bosquet housing estate (0H20). At the end of the first paved street (Bel-Air impasse), turn left (ignore the red cross) to head towards the end of the subdivision via rue de la Bordette. There, take the chemin de la Quère, a straight path that goes deep into the forest, then descends. Further on a delicate passage between two large rocks. The trail goes up and down. On the left, a view of the Ax valley. The old path continues, bordered by low stone walls to arrive at Savignac, route de Vaychis (0H45). Go up this road to the right for 20 meters then go down to the left by a staircase, take a street on the right which runs alongside the railway line. Leave a recently restored washhouse on the right. 300 m further turn left to pass under a viaduct (rue de laplaine). Continue this street, at the end of it turn right. Go along the church. Cross the RN2020 road, head to the right to reach the campsite. At the campsite, take the Chemin des étangs de Savignac (1h30). Go up the right bank of the Ariège and cross the river by a “Roman bridge”. Go left to return to Ax via the left bank of the Ariège.
